Mary’s journey into the world of food is filled with memories of sitting around the table with aunts and uncles from every part of the globe. Her Egyptian family moved to Southern Africa around the time she was born, and food was one of the main ways they stayed connected with their roots. Growing up in a small but vibrant North African and Middle Eastern community meant that she was exposed to the diversity of the region, while also finding her own spin on things. In her adult life, she lives in the South of France, where she discovers and experiences all the Mediterranean connections and variations to use in her cooking.
Mary has her own small food business and has been a food writer and recipe developer for years. Her work appears in Gastro Obscura, Kitchn, Eating Well, Serious Eats, and more.
