Why Dill Sauce is My New Favorite Seafood Topper

  • It’s creamy without being heavy: Greek yogurt gives it that luscious texture.
  • It’s versatile: I spoon it over shrimp, trout, or seared scallops, and it never misses.
  • It’s easy! One bowl, a whisk, and it’s ready!

I’ve made salmon every which way over the years, but this new dill sauce for salmon recipe from my friend Mersedeh Prewer has reinvigorated my love for it. It’s creamy but not heavy, and it comes together in minutes. Spoon it over broiled salmon, or almost any other fish recipe, and suddenly dinner feels special. 

And because this is The Mediterranean Dish, you already know we’re skipping the heavy cream! Greek yogurt steps in with its tangy richness, giving us that luxurious texture while keeping things light and fresh. Adding this one to my line-up of delicious Mediterranean Diet-friendly sauces!

Key Ingredients

  • Greek yogurt: I like full-fat here for the creamiest texture and best flavor.
  • Extra virgin olive oil adds richness and helps give the sauce a silky texture. I like to make this recipe with buttery Italian Nocellara olive oil from Sicily.
  • Dijon mustard adds a little peppery zing, just enough sharpness to keep the sauce lively.
  • Garlic: A single clove gives depth without overpowering the delicate flavor of the dill.
  • Fresh and dried dill: This combo is the secret! Fresh dill for brightness, along with dried dill for depth.

How to Make Creamy Dill Sauce for Salmon

  • Mix sauce base. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, and 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard until smooth. 
  • Add seasonings. Stir in 1 minced or grated garlic clove, 2 tablespoons finely-chopped fresh dill, and 1/2 teaspoon dried dill. Then whisk in 1 teaspoon lemon or lime juice. 
  • Adjust the texture. Slowly whisk in 1/4 cup hot water. Depending on the thickness of your yogurt you may want to add another spoonful or two of water. 
  • Finish and serve. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Taste and adjust with more lemon or lime as needed. Drizzle with more olive oil and top with a few fronds of fresh dill.

Perfect Pairings

  • Any other seafood: Of course, this sauce pairs well with Lemon Dill Salmon, but no need to stop there. It’s a great pairing for any other kind of seafood, too. It doubles down on the dill flavor in juicy air fryer shrimp, and it’s wonderful on grilled trout and roasted branzino
  • Potatoes: Dill and potatoes are a classic combo, and this creamy dill sauce is a great creamy foil for crispy roasted red potatoes
  • Something smoky: Smoked salmon and dill are so delicious together. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m going to mix this up next time I make this smoked salmon platter or this egg white frittata

This creamy dill sauce for salmon is a healthy variation of classic recipes made with mayonnaise or heavy cream. Made with Greek yogurt. It is light yet luxurious and pairs beautifully with salmon, shrimp, and other seafood. Best of all, you can stir it together in minutes! Mersedeh Prewer shared this recipe with her salmon, and I am in love!

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
